The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention declared the multistate Salmonella outbreak linked to imported moringa leaf powder officially over on July 22, 2026, following a nearly yearlong investigation that confirmed 131 illnesses and 36 hospitalizations across 38 states and no deaths. The FDA simultaneously closed its parallel outbreak investigation on the same date.
The outbreak, which involved multiple Salmonella serotypes including Typhimurium, Newport, and Richmond, was traced to moringa leaf powder imported from India and distributed under several brand names across the continental United States, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. All recalled products have been pulled from retail sale, but public health officials are warning that some bottles may still be stored in consumers' homes, given that moringa supplements carry long expiration dates and may have been purchased months ago.
