Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed recently shut down a reporter who suggested his recent campaign appearance with Kamala Harris amounted to a “flip-flop.” The exchange took place during a press conference, where the reporter questioned whether appearing with Harris might backfire among Arab American voters given El-Sayed previously endorsed an uncommitted vote in the 2024 presidential primary, The Hill reports.
El-Sayed immediately pushed back on the framing of the question. He challenged the reporter to define the purpose of the uncommitted movement and explain the political timeline. When the reporter noted the movement concerned the administration’s handling of the war in Gaza, El-Sayed pressed for further clarity regarding who was the Democratic candidate at the time of his initial endorsement.
