While the rest of the media zeroed in on the Houston Texans giving former quarterback Josh McCown an interview for their coaching position, they actually conducted an interview with a promising candidate and didn’t announce it.
According to Adam Schefter from ESPN, the Texans completed an interview with Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell.
The Texans’ official coaching tracker on their own website has yet to acknowledge the interview with O’Connell. The Texans only list interviews with former Miami Dolphins Brian Flores, Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi, Florida Atlantic receivers coach Hines Ward, Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon, and McCown.
Houston did have interest in O’Connell, but there was no follow up on whether or not the Texans interviewed the Rams’ offensive coordinator.
O’Connell has had a busy week as Los Angeles prepares for the NFC Championship Game at SoFi Stadium against the San Francisco 49ers. It will be an opportunity for O’Connell to showcase what he can bring to a franchise looking for a young assistant on the Sean McVay coaching tree.
