The Houston Texans would like to reunite with one of their more productive defensive players in team history.
According to Aaron Wilson from KPRC-TV, the Texans have interest in San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans. However, Ryans is not expected to pursue the position at this time. Nevertheless Wilson notes that the feelings could change.
The 49ers finished as the No. 2 defense and the No. 1 scoring defense in 2022. San Francisco finished 13-4 and locked up the No. 2 seed in the NFC along with another division title.
Ryans, a former Texans 2006 second-round pick from Alabama, played from 2006-11 in Houston, earning NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, an All-Pro, and two Pro Bowl selections. Ryans finished his career with the Philadelphia Eagles from 2012-15.
When Kyle Shanahan took the job as the San Francisco 49ers coach in 2017, Ryans was hired as defensive quality control. From 2018-20, Ryans was the inside linebackers coach before taking over as defensive coordinator in 2021 following the departure of Robert Saleh, who took the job as coach of the New York Jets.
