Report: Texans CB Tavierre Thomas out indefinitely with pulled quadriceps

The attrition of the preseason continues for the Houston Texans roster.

According to Aaron Wilson from the Pro Football Network, cornerback Tavierre Thomas has a pulled quadriceps and will be out indefinitely. The expectation is that Thomas will be able to return in 2022, but the timeframe for recovery could be a few months.

Thomas played 638 defensive snaps through 17 games last year, starting in eight of them for the Texans. The former Ferris State product had two interceptions, returning one for a touchdown against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 16’s 41-29 victory at NRG Stadium.

Special teams coordinator Frank Ross told reporters Aug. 16 that he is pleased when he sees players such as Thomas have success along with their steadiness on special teams.

“Doesn’t matter who you are, where you come from, what your, ‘slot on the totem pole is,’ excited for the overall success of whoever that is,” said Ross.

With Thomas out, it also helps the Texans determine what to do at slot cornerback as there was a battle going with Thomas and Desmond King.
