Desmond King posted to X, “WELP ONTO THE NEXT,” and moments later, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero added some context behind the tweet: The Pittsburgh Steelers would release the cornerback if a trade couldn’t be arranged.
The #Steelers informed veteran CB Desmond King they plan to release him if they can't find a trade partner, per source.
King has played in 98 career games (53 starts). An experienced nickel available.

Pittsburgh signed King, a 2017 fifth-round pick by the Chargers, in August after he was cut from the Houston Texans.
Despite the Steelers’ secondary being one of the worst in the NFL, the sole defensive snap King managed was a touchdown to Baltimore Ravens running back Justice Hill in Week 5. He was primarily used for kick returns, on which he had four for 88 yards. With Anthony McFarland’s expected return to the 53-man roster, King’s services are no longer needed.
Once the Steelers activate McFarland from injured reserve, a corresponding roster move will be necessary.
