It’s no secret that the Los Angeles Rams have lacked a consistent pass rush this season, which has led many to believe they’ll make a move for an edge rusher soon. With the trade deadline right around the corner, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler revealed that the Rams are aggressively looking to acquire a pass rusher and Brian Burns has been on their radar.
The Rams are lurking on the pass-rush market, I’m told. They were in heavy on Brian Burns. Could Les Snead strike again?
The Carolina Panthers are undergoing changes upon firing Matt Rhule a couple of weeks ago, including trading Christian McCaffrey and Robbie Anderson. The Rams attempted to acquire McCaffrey before the San Francisco 49ers swooped in and submitted a better offer to land the All-Pro running back.
Teams have shown interest in guys like Burns and D.J. Moore, with multiple reports suggesting that the Panthers turned down two first-round picks for Burns. The reports could be the Panthers trying to see if any team will increase their offer for the talented edge rusher or they are sending a message to other teams that he’s not available, while it could also be them showing Burns how much they value him moving forward.
Besides Burns, the Rams have been mentioned in trade rumors involving guys like Bradley Chubb and Robert Quinn. We’ve seen Les Snead pull the trigger for an elite edge rusher just last season when the Rams sent a second and third-round pick for Von Miller.
Entering Week 8, Los Angeles has tallied only 12 sacks (tied for seventh-fewest in the NFL), and only two of those have been by edge defenders. With the Rams desperately needing a spark in the pass-rushing department, it should be expected of them to make a move for Burns or someone else between now and the trade deadline.
