Report: Raheem Morris’ interview with Colts ‘went really well’

For the second straight year, Raheem Morris is drawing significant interest as a head coaching candidate. He’s landed interviews with the Colts and Broncos this offseason, with the possibility that one of the two will hire him away from the Rams.

It sounds like Morris has stood out to the Colts already, too.

According to Colts reporter Zak Keefer of The Athletic, Morris’ interview with Indianapolis “went really well.” Keefer notes that Morris is “an intriguing candidate” who got a head coaching opportunity early in his career with the Buccaneers but hasn’t gotten another since.

Losing Morris would be a big blow to the Rams’ coaching staff, seeing how heavily Sean McVay leans on him on the defensive side of the ball. Fans haven’t been thrilled with the coverage scheme he deploys, but in his two years in Los Angeles, he’s done a good job leading the Rams defense.

What’s also worrisome about Morris’ potential departure is the possibility that he takes assistants with him. Keefer wrote that Morris might consider bringing Rams D-line coach Eric Henderson to Indianapolis as his defensive coordinator, along with Zac Robinson as his offensive coordinator.

Morris deserves a head coaching opportunity after being a coordinator and position coach for so long, something Sean McVay and Jalen Ramsey have both said countless times in the last two years. Whether it’s with the Colts or Broncos remains to be seen, but Morris is getting serious consideration this offseason.
