Ahead of their home date with the Dolphins on Sunday Night Football this week, the Patriots have signed an accomplished former college quarterback.
New England is adding former Notre Dame signal-caller Ian Book to its practice squad, according to a Wednesday morning report from Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
Book, 25, was picked by the Saints in the fourth round of the 2021 draft. He started one game for New Orleans his rookie year as an emergency measure, completing 12 of 20 passes with two interceptions in a 20-3 loss to the Dolphins at the height of that year's surge of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.

The Saints waived him in Aug. 2022 and he spent the ensuing season with the Eagles, who in turn waived him on Aug. 29 of this year.
With the Fighting Irish, Book embarked upon one of the most productive careers in school history, throwing 72 touchdowns against 20 interceptions from 2017-20. He finished ninth in the Heisman Trophy voting his senior season.
The Patriots currently have two quarterbacks on their active roster: Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe.
