Jets WR Denzel Mims wants out of New York. And perhaps he has a potential suitor in place.
The Athletic’s Zach Rosenblatt and Joe Person are both reporting that the Carolina Panthers have shown interest and have called the Jets about Mims.
The Panthers have interest in Denzel Mims. Not surprising considering the Matt Rhule connection. #Jets https://t.co/ZurzlLW4QQ

Panthers have called about Jets WR Denzel Mims, per league sources. Mims had a pair of 1,000-yard receiving seasons for Matt Rhule at Baylor.
GM Scott Fitterer has said Panthers will be in on every deal. So Mims interest not surprising, esp. given his connection to Rhule. (1/2)— Joe Person (@josephperson) August 26, 2022
The connection makes sense. Mims had a pair of 1,000-yard seasons while at Baylor, His head coach during that time? Current Panthers head coach Matt Rhule.
And of course, as Person notes, there is obviously already some history of trading between Jets general manager Joe Douglas and Panthers GM Scott Fitterer, namely the Sam Darnold trade.
Mims is a big target (6-3, 207) who had just eight catches for 133 yards last yr. Might benefit from change of scenery. Also, Fitterer and Jets GM Joe Douglas have a trading history (see Darnold, Sam).

The Panthers certainly could create a role for Mims on their offense. There isn’t much in the wide receiver room outside of DJ Moore and former Jet Robbie Anderson. Of course, Christian McCaffrey is still around, but you have to think the Panthers will want to sling the ball a little bit too with Baker Mayfield at quarterback.
The Panthers likely would only have to ship a late-round pick to get Mims. The Jets are willing to listen to trade offers, but aren’t going to just give him away, as reported by Connor Hughes of SNY. This will certainly be a story worth monitoring going forward. The deadline to get down to 53 players in Tuesday, so we’ll see if something happens this weekend.
