Notre Dame is reportedly hiring tight ends coach Gerad Parker to fill its offensive coordinator position, per Football Scoop. Sources later confirmed the news to ESPN’s Heather Dinich.
Parker just finished his first season with the Fighting Irish as the tight ends coach. He joined Marcus Freeman’s staff after the head coach took over the program from Brian Kelly. Before that, Parker worked as the offensive coordinator for two seasons at West Virginia.
This news comes two days after former Buccaneers offensive coordinator Bryan Leftwich was considered “a serious candidate” for the Notre Dame role. It’s unknown at this time who else was considered for the role.
The offensive coordinator position opened up after Tommy Rees, who was the OC from 2020-22 for the Fighting Irish, took the same position at Alabama on Feb. 3. Rees played quarterback at Notre Dame before taking on different roles there as a coach.
