NBC Sports is replacing Jac Collinsworth as the play-by-play voice of Notre Dame football, according to a report from Andrew Marchand of The Athletic.
Collinsworth spent two seasons in the role, teaming up with color commentator Jason Garrett. Garrett is expected to remain as the color analyst, while NBC plans to move Dan Hicks into the play-by-play role on a full-time basis to replace Collinsworth.
Hicks previously worked as the play-by-play voice for Notre Dame games 10 years ago, and is the network’s lead golf commentator.
As for the remainder of NBC’s college football coverage, the network plans to keep the broadcast team of Noah Eagle and Todd Blackledge intact moving forward. Eagle, the son of legendary play-by-play sports announcer Ian Eagle, is one of the most respected young sports broadcasters in the business. The 26-year-old Eagle received rave reviews last season on NBC’s Big Ten coverage alongside the 62-year-old Blackledge.
Collinsworth is expected to remain with NBC Sports, and is likely to contribute to the network’s Football Night in America coverage for the NFL, as well as college football, college basketball and Olympics coverage on NBC’s Peacock streaming service.
