Report: National Championship Big East Coach Agrees to Contract Extension

UConn men’s basketball coach Dan Hurley, who returned the Huskies to the Promised Land with a national championship in April, has agreed to a new six-year contract that will guarantee him nearly $33 million, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The deal for Hurley puts him among the nation’s highest-paid coaches.

Per Wojnarowski, Hurley’s contract includes incentives for athletic and academic success that could push the full value of the deal beyond the $33 million guaranteed.

Hurley has gone 104–55 in his five years at Connecticut and has reached the NCAA Tournament in each of the last three seasons. UConn’s victory over San Diego State in April secured the program’s fifth national title, pushing the historic basketball program back among the nation’s elite.

UConn lost two of its guards, Jordan Hawkins and Andre Jackson Jr., and its dominant big, Adama Sanogo, to the NBA draft. Even so, UConn is widely expected to be a preseason Top 10 team, led by the returns of center Donovan Clingan and forward Alex Karaban.
