Report: Jaguars among teams interested in OG Brandon Scherff

At this point, everyone knows the Jacksonville Jaguars will be looking for help on the offensive line in free agency and it appears they have their eyes on one of the top names on the market to help their unit. That player is All-Pro and five-time Pro Bowl guard Brandon Scherff, according to The Athletic’s Connor Hughes.

The Jags aren’t alone in trying to acquire Scherff, though. The Cincinnati Bengals and New York Jets are also interested in the Commanders veteran as they need help on the offensive line for their young quarterbacks, too.

The Jags entered the tampering period with two starting guards of their own on the free agent market in A.J. Cann and Andrew Norwell. That said, it’s clear they wanted to upgrade at least one of those spots in free agency and maybe could look to the draft to do so, too.

Scherff entered this offseason with 89 starts to his name, but has missed 22 games in four seasons, so availability and his age (30) are concerns. However, when healthy he’s an elite guard and has registered a 72.5 Pro Football Focus grade or higher his last four seasons.

Adding Scherff to the Jags’ offensive line would pair him with center Brandon Linder, who is also one of the league’s better interior players who has had availability issues, too. That said, Scherff would be a risky signing, but if he can play in 13-14 games a year for the Jags, he’d be a huge addition for both quarterback Trevor Lawrence and the run game.
