There were questions about whether or not the Minnesota Vikings would be keeping multiple veterans, including safety Harrison Smith. According to a report from The Star Tribune’s Ben Goessling, the Vikings and Smith have come to an agreement on a new contract that will keep him with the Vikings in 2023.
There were talks that the Vikings were asking Smith to take a pay cut, with the amount being described as “substantial.” With the 3 pm central deadline looming on Friday, the Vikings cleared cap space and kept one of their future ring of honor players.
As far as a fit with the new scheme brought by Brian Flores, Smith will be able to go back to his days as a riverboat gambler under Mike Zimmer. He will be able to blitz, roam the enitre field and hang out in the box.
Not only that, but Smith continues to be elite at social media, sending this picture out on his Instagram right before news broke that he was staying with the Vikings in 2023.
Update: per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the re-worked deal is for $8 million with an additional $2 million in incentives.
This from Harrison Smith on IG is tremendous on many levels. Again, he is staying on the Vikings roster with a new contract. https://t.co/Txwhj5jSr1 pic.twitter.com/Uwp6bTZAUm
