Report: Giants’ Raheem Layne out for season with torn meniscus

The injuries continue to pile up for the New York Giants with defensive back Raheem Layne now out for the season after suffering a torn meniscus in Sunday’s 34-7 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.

The Athletic’s Dan Duggan was the first to report the news.

Layne, who signed with the Los Angeles Chargers as a rookie free agent out of Indiana following the 2022 NFL draft, suffered a torn ACL in October of last season.

In mid-August, the Giants signed Layne but later released him as a part of final cuts before signing him to the practice squad. He was added to the active roster on December 21, one day before a game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Layne took 22 defensive snaps and five special teams snaps in Week 16, recording, recording three solo tackles.

After the game, Layne swapped jerseys with Falcons rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr., who he briefly played with at Indiana before the quarterback transferred to Washington.

He becomes the latest in a long line of Giants on or headed to injured reserve (IR).
