Report: Giants not planning to release James Bradberry

The New York Giants are not planning to release Pro Bowl cornerback James Bradberry in the event they can not find a trade partner, reports NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

The team will apparently continue to shop Bradberry even if it means they will have to temporarily absorb a $2 million guaranteed injury clause in his contract by keeping him past the new league year open at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Bradberry’s 2022 cap hit is listed as $21.863 million which consists of a base salary of $13.4 million. He carries a dead cap charge of over $9.7 million.

The $2 million guarantee is not immediately paid out. The Giants carry the number in the event they cut him. If traded, the acquiring team would then take on the $2 million guarantee.

Keeping Bradberry through the offseason would only cost the team $100,000.

Following the restructures of linebacker Blake Martinez and wide receiver Sterling Shepard, the Giants are in salary cap compliance. Bradberry does not need to be cut for them to operate, although it will likely bring to an end any major free agency spending.
