Report: Giants met ‘extensively’ with Tennessee QB Hendon Hooker

The New York Giants are seeking to upgrade/fortify their future at quarterback this offseason. Naturally, there is the Daniel Jones situation where they will attempt to bring him back for a reasonable price.

Then, there is Plan B, where the Giants and Jones don’t agree on a long-term deal and they begin to look for other possible down-the-road options.

The Draft Network’s Ryan Fowler is reporting the Giants have met with Tennessee’s Hendon Hooker, who will be available in this April’s NFL draft.

The Giants are likely bringing back Jones, even if it means using the franchise tag and having his backup, Tyrod Taylor, under contract for another year.

That doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be seeking out alternatives. No one is quite sure the Giants are completely sold on Jones for the long term to begin with, even though they’ve publicly been fawning over him, so their actions here could be tipping their hand a bit.

Hooker is a hot item this offseason. A redshirt senior who began his college career at Virginia Tech, the 25-year-old Hooker had two prolific seasons at Tennessee both as a passer and a runner before suffering a knee injury last November.

At 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, Hooker could jump to the front of the quarterback class this spring if he tests well at the NFL Combine and subsequent workouts beginning next week.

The Giants will be one of the teams watching.
