Free agent DeAndre Hopkins is expected to visit the Patriots next week, his second set visit after the Cardinals released him, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports.
After an offseason of trade rumors, Arizona couldn’t find a trade partner and chose to cut Hopkins last month instead. The wide receiver spent the last three years with the Cardinals after a seven-year stint with the Texans.
The Patriots interest in Hopkins is notable, mostly because New England’s offensive coordinator is Bill O’Brien, the former Houston head coach. It was O’Brien who coached Hopkins throughout his time in Houston but traded him unceremoniously in 2020.
Additionally, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has always been a fan of Hopkins, as he was happy to share with him after the two played each other last year.
Rapoport also reports Hopkins has already visited the Titans, a team in dire need of wide receiver help. However, Hopkins’ contract demands are still crucial, as he is reportedly looking for a deal similar to that of Odell Beckham Jr.
