Report: Colts scouting WR Rashee Rice at SMU pro day

The Indianapolis Colts reportedly have a representative at the pro day for SMU on Thursday, likely to get a closer look at wide receiver Rashee Rice.

While this week’s big pro days revolve around three of the quarterbacks in C.J. Stroud, Bryce Young and Will Levis, there are still plenty of other prospects looking to boost their stock ahead of the 2023 NFL draft.

According to Garrett Podell of CBS Sports, the Colts were among the teams spotted at the pro day Thursday.

Rice is an intriguing prospect for the Colts to consider late on Day 2 or even more likely on Day 3. At 6-foot-1 and 204 pounds, Rice posted a 4.51 in the 40-yard dash and an incredibly explosive 41-inch vertical at the NFL combine in February.

Rice is known as a strong tracker of the football and excels at making contested catches. His development likely begins with adding more nuance to his route running, and he didn’t much press coverage at SMU.

He’s coming off a career season in 2022 when he posted 96 receptions for 1,355 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Rice could develop into a Z-receiver type of role for the Colts if they have enough interest in him on Day 3 of the draft, and it will be something to monitor if his pro day improves his stock at all.
