The Chicago Bulls haven’t made any major moves this summer. Outside of adding Jevon Carter and Torrey Craig, the team looks almost the same as last year’s squad. Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, and Nikola Vucevic are all back, as are Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu, both of whom the Bulls re-signed this offseason.
And while training camp is almost here, the Bulls may not be completely done making moves. With Damian Lillard trade rumors still floating around, the Bulls could get involved, but not in the way one might think. Rather than going after Lillard, they could look to target a different star.
Buy Bulls TicketsAccording to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, the Bulls are one of four teams potentially interested in snagging Tyler Herro in a multi-team deal.
Here is what Fischer had to say about Chicago:
“If Portland ultimately does business with Miami, the Jazz — as well as the Bulls, Hornets and Nets — are considered a team interested in landing Tyler Herro from the Heat, sources said,” Fischer wrote. “And there are plenty of executives who’d rather take Miami’s best package, if the Heat are so willing, that could include Herro and Nikola Jovic to go with Jaquez, Caleb Martin and more.”
Adding Herro to the mix would completely change the outlook of the Bulls. Not only would he help improve their three-point shooting woes, but he’d also make the team a lot younger, which would be great.
That said, the Bulls could struggle to match Herro’s salary in a trade unless the Portland Trail Blazers or Miami Heat want to take on Lonzo Ball’s contract, which seems highly unlikely.
White and Dosnumu cannot be traded until mid-January, as both were re-signed this offseason.
All in all, barring one of the teams involved wanting to take a chance on Ball, Chicago would have to give up Alex Caruso and Patrick Williams in a Herro trade to make the money work.
So, while Herro would be a great fit on the Bulls, the details of a deal don’t make a ton of sense.
