Report: Bryce Young had highest grade for a QB on S2 Cognition test

One of the areas that does not scare away NFL teams from Bryce Young is his decision-making. It is merely the Alabama quarterback’s 5-10, 204-pound frame that gets called into question.

According to NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah, who joined the “Around the NFL” podcast, Young has established himself as having one of the highest test results as it relates to decision-making through the S2 Cognition test.

“So it’s a processing test that are now being given especially to quarterbacks,” Jeremiah said. “It’s been big in baseball. So, it would be like six shapes pop up and one that’s different. How quick can you process information? If you think about for baseball, pitch recognition, it’s a very valuable tool and it’s made its way over to football the last five years. Josh Allen was off the charts on it. [Patrick] Mahomes tested off the charts on it. Last year in the entire quarterback class, Brock Purdy had the highest number, had the highest grade on it. This year, it’s Bryce Young.”

One of the cohosts asked Jeremiah if the information was public, and, realizing his mistake, Jeremiah simply quipped, “No, but that part is now.”

If Young has the same S2 Cognition score as Purdy, then it bodes well for the Texans should they take him with their No. 2 overall pick. Purdy excelled in the San Francisco 49ers’ offensive system led by Kyle Shanahan, and it is the exact philosophy Houston will be deploying in 2023 with new offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, who was the 49ers’ passing game coordinator.
