Report: Brock Purdy surgery delayed due to inflammation

Brock Purdy’s elbow surgery, which was originally scheduled for Wednesday, will be delayed until at least early March according to a report for NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero.

Pelissero reported the 49ers’ QB on Tuesday met with Dr. Ketih Meister, who will be performing the surgery, and it was recommended that surgery be postponed. They’ll meet again in early March. The hope is delaying the procedure will ensure Purdy returns at 100 percent without altering his timeline for return.

If Purdy does need a repair, it will still be a six-month return. Delaying it until early March could put him up against the start of the regular season, which will begin sometime near mid-September.

It’s still not 100 percent clear exactly which surgery Purdy will require. Whether he needs a repair (six-month return timeline) or reconstruction (9-to-12 month return timeline) won’t be determined until Dr. Meister sees the ligament during the procedure. Multiple reports have indicated the repair is likely.

Purdy, the final pick in the 2022 draft, was in line to be the starting QB going into the offseason before tearing his UCL in the NFC championship game. In nine appearances (five starts) he completed 67.1 percent of his throws for 1,374 yards with 13 touchdown passes and four interceptions.
