The NFL trade deadline is just around the corner, and there’s likely to be plenty of action before the Oct. 31 deadline.
Last season, the Chicago Bears were quite active, dealing linebacker Roquan Smith and defensive end Robert Quinn and acquiring receiver Chase Claypool. But don’t expect the same for Chicago this year.
Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune said he’d be surprised if the Bears were sellers at the trade deadline — and one of his sources confirmed as much.
One AFC source said the Bears are said to want to “stand pat” at the deadline. That doesn’t mean there won’t be some buzz in the coming days for other teams.
Sitting at 2-5, Chicago isn’t expected to be buyers. But there are several trade candidates on the Bears’ roster, including cornerback Jaylon Johnson, safety Eddie Jackson, receiver Darnell Mooney and offensive lineman Cody Whitehair, who could draw interest.
Chicago would be wise to re-sign Johnson, who’s been a productive cornerback since being drafted in 2020. And it sounds like the two sides are negotiating a potential extension.
