Rep. Claudia Tenney, R-N.Y., recently sent a letter to Democratic New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, urging her to pardon former President Trump following his recent conviction. Tenney argued that the case undermines the impartiality and credibility of the justice system.
Tenney emphasized the importance of restoring trust in the legal system by pardoning Trump. She criticized Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's handling of the case, accusing him of targeting individuals rather than investigating crimes.
Tenney highlighted bipartisan support for pardoning Trump, citing a Democratic colleague's call for the same. She also called for Bragg's removal from his role as district attorney, alleging potential legal violations in his pursuit of the case.
In response to Tenney's letter, sources reached out to Hochul's office for comment, but no immediate response was received.
Trump recently completed a pre-sentencing interview ahead of his sentencing hearing on July 11. He faces charges related to falsifying business records in connection with a hush money payment to Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election.
Trump's legal team has indicated plans to appeal the conviction. The sentencing is scheduled just days before the Republican National Convention, where Trump is expected to be named the official presidential nominee.
