Rep. Mike Carey, R-Ohio, is positioning himself as a strong contender to replace Vice President-elect JD Vance in the U.S. Senate. Carey, a former coal lobbyist and combat veteran, emphasized his experience working with President-elect Trump in the private sector and his commitment to advancing the new administration's agenda.

With three endorsements from Trump, Carey stressed the importance of supporting the president's agenda in the Senate. He highlighted the need for a senator who can immediately contribute and not require on-the-job training, citing his successful track record in Ohio's 15th Congressional District.

Carey emphasized the diversity of Ohio and the importance of understanding the state's unique characteristics. He pointed out that his district reflects the state's demographics, showcasing his ability to connect with a broad range of constituents.

On the campaign trail, Carey focused on issues such as tax credits for caregivers and in-vitro fertilization, demonstrating a bipartisan approach to legislation. He expressed his willingness to continue working on these initiatives in the Senate.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine is tasked with selecting Vance's replacement, considering candidates like Carey, Reps. Jim Jordan, David Joyce, and Warren Davidson. DeWine aims to prevent Democrats from gaining ground in the state's Senate delegation in the upcoming special election.

Other potential contenders for the Senate seat include former Ohio Republican Chair Jane Timken, Secretary of State Frank LaRose, state Sen. Matt Dolan, Ohio Treasurer Robert Sprague, and Republican strategist Mehek Cooke.

Carey expressed admiration for Governor DeWine and highlighted his deep love for Ohio, positioning himself as a candidate who shares that passion for the state.
