Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., is set to introduce a resolution aimed at banning transgender women from using women's restrooms at the U.S. Capitol. The resolution is expected to be filed on Monday, with Mace emphasizing the importance of protecting women and pushing back against what she perceives as the erasure of biological women by the Left.
The proposed measure would prohibit Members, officers, and employees of the House from using single-sex facilities that do not align with their biological sex. The enforcement of this rule would fall under the responsibility of the House sergeant at arms.
This move by Mace is seen as a potential indicator of the types of changes Republicans may seek to implement once they gain control of both houses of Congress next year. The GOP has been vocal on transgender issues, particularly focusing on the participation of transgender youth in school sports.
House Republicans have previously taken steps to address transgender-related matters, including restricting federal funding for transgender health care and preventing trans student athletes from competing on teams based on their gender identity.
Notably, Mace had previously introduced a bill that aimed to deport illegal immigrants with a history of sex crimes or violence against women. The bill received support from 51 Democrats and all House Republicans.
