Rep. Foxx Criticizes Columbia University For Antisemitism

Columbia University accused of being a hotbed of antisemitism by Rep. Foxx.

During a recent hearing, Rep. Virginia Foxx, the Republican chairwoman of the House Education and Workforce Committee, expressed strong criticism towards Columbia University, accusing the institution of being a hotbed of antisemitism and failing to protect its students.

Foxx highlighted the surge of antisemitic incidents on college campuses, particularly at prestigious universities, following the October 7 Hamas attacks. She specifically pointed out Columbia University as one of the worst offenders, citing a recent incident where an Israeli student was reportedly assaulted with a stick just days after the attacks.

In her remarks, Foxx accused Columbia University of gross negligence, suggesting that the institution had not taken sufficient action to address antisemitism and protect its students and staff. She went as far as to claim that the university may have become a platform for individuals who support terrorism and violence against the Jewish community.

The allegations made by Rep. Foxx have sparked a debate about the handling of antisemitism on college campuses and the responsibility of institutions to ensure the safety and well-being of all students. Columbia University has not yet responded publicly to the specific accusations raised by Foxx.

As the issue continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how Columbia University and other institutions will address concerns about antisemitism and hate on their campuses, and what actions will be taken to create a more inclusive and secure environment for all members of the academic community.
