President-elect Donald Trump has selected North Carolina Rep. Dan Bishop to serve as the deputy director of the Office of Management and Budget. This appointment comes after Bishop's unsuccessful campaign for North Carolina attorney general, positioning him in a key role responsible for implementing the president's policies and managing resource allocation within the executive branch.
Bishop will be working under Russell Vought, who was nominated by Trump to lead the OMB last month. Vought, a prominent figure in Project 2025, will oversee Bishop in their efforts to streamline government operations and advance the administration's agenda.
In a statement on Truth Social, Trump praised Bishop's dedication to the 'MAGA Movement' during his tenure in the House of Representatives, particularly highlighting his work on the Judiciary and Homeland Security Committees. Trump expressed confidence in Bishop's ability to execute cost-cutting measures and deregulatory initiatives across various government agencies, emphasizing the need to address what he referred to as the 'Weaponized Deep State.'
Throughout his time in Congress, Bishop has been a staunch supporter of Trump, aligning himself with the former president's positions on key issues. In 2020, Bishop joined other House Republicans in backing a Supreme Court filing challenging the outcome of the presidential election. Additionally, he was among the lawmakers who contested the election results during the congressional certification process following the events of January 6th, 2021, at the US Capitol.
