Rep. Kat Cammack, a Republican from Florida, recently spoke out about the ongoing anti-Israel protests taking place at American universities. She referred to the agitators as 'professional protesters,' emphasizing that the demonstrations involve a mix of students and individuals with financial motives.
Cammack highlighted the involvement of professors in these protests, suggesting that many of them have carried a radical mentality since their own days of activism on campuses decades ago. She referenced the influence of books like 'Rules for Radicals' on these individuals.
When asked about potential solutions to address the situation, Cammack proposed defunding universities that tolerate such behavior. She expressed concern over students facing physical assault, intimidation, and disruptions to their academic pursuits, including the cancellation of graduation ceremonies.
'This is a total assault on American students, on Israelis, on Jewish American students,' Cammack stated. 'We have the power of the purse, and we need to exercise it by pulling back funding from these universities.'
The congresswoman emphasized the need to take decisive action to protect students and uphold academic freedom. She called for leveraging the financial leverage of Congress to hold universities accountable for allowing disruptive and harmful protests to persist on their campuses.
