Rep. Bob Good conceded the Republican primary in Virginia’s 5th Congressional District after a recount. Good expressed his disappointment in the outcome but also reflected on his honor in serving as the congressional representative for the district for the past 3.5 years.
The recount was requested by Good, who had to fund it himself, after the certified results showed him trailing state Sen. John McGuire by 374 votes, or 0.6 percentage points.
Former President Donald Trump and former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy endorsed McGuire over Good. Good, who chairs the hard-line House Freedom Caucus, faced tough competition in the primary.
