RentMy acquires Pa-rent to establish Scottish presence

Essex-based household product rental platform RentMy has bought Scottish rival platform Pa-rent.

The Edinburgh-based early stage start-up is aimed at parents who want to rent out baby equipment and family items. Its acquisition lets RentMy hit the ground running north of the border, with thousands of active users.

“We’re really excited to have this opportunity to establish ourselves in Scotland,” commented Tom West, chief executive of RentMy, which he founded in June 2020.

“Pa-rent has a great community of sharers in Edinburgh, and we are pleased to now expand both Edinburgh and RentMy communities to be the UK’s leading rental marketplace.

“This is a significant step in RentMy’s growth and we look forward to working with the Pa-rent community to continue the change for a better and shared future.”

After completing an onboarding process, users of RentMy can list items - from bikes to tools, cameras to sewing machines - as well as set the deposit and the price.

Those who don't have these items can use the platform to rent them from someone in the local community for less than going to a hire company.
