Renfrewshire politicians have joined forces to heap scorn on "lame duck" Prime Minister Boris Johnson, following a confidence vote in the Commons on Monday night.
The UK premier clung to power after securing the support of 211 MPs during the Tory session.
But some 148 of the UK's Tory MPs voted against him - leaving him with a bigger revolt than expected and presenting a backing slimmer than those clinched by past PMs Theresa May, John Major and 'Iron Lady' Margaret Thatcher, in challenges to their leadership.
All three limped on but later succumbed to the inevitable and were ousted from their positions.

But doubts over the PM's future remain after the vote revealed deep rifts in the party.
Paisley and Renfrewshire North MP Gavin Newlands called for Mr Johnson to "pack his bags" in the wake of the vote, saying: "Boris Johnson experienced the worst result ever recorded by a sitting Prime Minister in a Tory leadership election, yet within minutes of the vote being announced was popping up on TV assuring us the result was a resounding endorsement of his position.
"His brass neck and relationship to the truth owes very little to the world of reality. He is a proven liar and has consistently misled Parliament, his colleagues, his party and the public."
The SNP man added: "The in-fighting and self-delusion within the Tory party would be entertaining to watch but for the fact politics is not a game. Millions of households across these isles are dealing with the worst cost of living crisis in nearly half a century yet the Prime Minister responsible is clinging on to power by his fingertips, spending his time buying off backbenchers rather than focusing on solutions to the huge challenges facing us all.
"He has no mandate in Scotland, has the worst approval ratings of any Prime Minister on record , and even the few MPs the Tories have left here have overwhelmingly abandoned him and want to see him out of Downing Street sooner rather than later.
"It's time he read the writing on the wall, packed his bags and saved himself from further humiliation - and saved the rest of us from another minute under his wretched 'leadership'."
Mr Johnson and wife Carrie were booed by crowds as they attended weekend celebrations to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
Although allies claim the result of the confidence vote was a victory, it represents the worst result for a sitting Prime Minister in recent times.
Chairman of the backbench 1922 Committee, Sir Graham Brady, revealed on Monday that enough MPs had submitted letters requesting a vote of confidence in Mr Johnson to trigger the mechanism.
MP Mhairi Black echoed the comments made by her Renfrewshire counterpart, saying: "The Prime Minister is an embarrassment and over 40 per cent of his own Tory MP’s think so as well. Only two MP’s in the whole of Scotland think Boris Johnson should remain in his position.
“While people in Renfrewshire feel the impact of soaring living costs coupled with our recovery from the pandemic we have this clown in number 10 that has taken the general public for mugs.
"He should do the right thing and walk, any decent person would have by now.”
The firebrand Westminster-based Paisley and Renfrewshire South MP added: “The Prime Minister is bringing the foundations that our democracy is built on into question. How long before the general public starts to question why they should continue following this social contract while Boris Johnson tears it up in front of our eyes."
Scottish Tory leader and Moray MP Douglas Ross voted against the Prime Minister, as did former Scottish Secretary David Mundell, of Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale.
Borders MP John Lamont - who resigned as principal private secretary to Foreign Secretary Liz Truss in order to vote against Johnson - said he had grown "increasingly concerned" over the Prime Minister's leadership, backed by West Aberdeenshire's Andrew Bowie.
Dumfries and Galloway MP, current Scottish Secretary Alister Jack, supported Mr Johnson, along with Banff and Buchan's David Duguid.
Paisley-based Labour MSP Neil Bibby called Mr Johnson's encounter "bruising" and said his government is failing.
The West Scotland politician, said: "Boris Johnson is a lame duck Prime Minister who is stumbling on following a bruising confidence vote amongst Tory MPs.
"He has lied to people and not only that, his Government are failing every single day to help people with the cost of living. I know people are desperate for the opportunity to boot out Boris.
"At the next election, only Labour under Keir Starmer's leadership can get the Tories out and we are ready for that challenge."
The vote came after politicians and the electorate alike were left sickened by dripping revelations on the Downing Street 'partygate' scandal and lack of action on the cost of living crisis.
Boris Johnson's official spokesman said that the PM "has a mandate to continue and focus on the issues that matter to the public".
Mr Johnson has now pledged to deliver tax cuts which he believes will drive economic growth, saying levelling up, and driving "supply-side reform" and improvement is: "the way forward".
