Renato Veiga sends first message to supporters as Chelsea confirm deal

Chelsea have signed Basel utility player Renato Veiga on a seven-year contract.

The 20-year-old Portugal youth international, who can play in defence and midfielder, has joined for a reported £12million fee and his deal has the option for an additional 12 months.

"I'm absolutely buzzing to be here. This is one of the biggest clubs in England - the biggest for me - and I'm just really excited to get started," Veiga told the club's website.

A graduate of Sporting's academy in Lisbon, the son of former Cape Verde international Nelson Veiga had a loan move to Bundesliga side Augsburg in January 2023 before moving to Switzerland last summer, making 26 appearances for Basel.

The Blues have enjoyed a busy summer in the transfer window so far, following the appointment of Enzo Maresca.

They have signed Marc Guiu, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Tosin Adarabioyo and Omari Kellyman already, with Brazilian youngster Estevao Willian set to join the club next summer.
