X boss explains why ‘horrific’ video viewed by Axel Rudakubana wasn’t removed

The boss of online platform X (formerly Twitter) has said it would be “tyrannical overreach” to remove a video of a “horrific” stabbing, which was watched by Axel Rudakubana on the morning of the Southport attack.

Rudakubana, aged 17 at the time, searched the social media site for a video of the stabbing of Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel six minutes before he left home on 29 July last year.
