Remembrance Sunday Military Parade road closures in Newcastle - and what time they will be in place

The annual Remembrance Sunday parade will be held in Newcastle this month to pay respects to those who have served in the Armed Forces.

Poppy wreaths will be placed at War Memorials across the city before a parade commences through the city centre on Sunday, November 13.

Crowds are expected to line the route of the Military Parade to observe the march from the Civic Centre to the City War Memorial at Old Eldon Square. And road closures will be in place for the duration of the event, affecting a number of busy routes.

Sandyford Road, Percy Street, Blackett Street and Northumberland Street are among the areas included in the closures which will be in place between 10:00am and 12:30pm. The parade will see entire length of St Marys Place, Percy Street and Blackett Street temporarily closed.

Additional road closures for the Military Parade include:

  • Sandyford Road will be closed from the Civic Centre Car Park access road to St Marys Place
  • Northumberland Street will be closed from Blackett Street to Northumberland Road.
  • Northumberland Road will be closed from Northumberland Street to John Dobson Street
  • John Dobson Street will be closed from Northumberland Road to St Mary's Place

People travelling into the city centre should plan their journey in advance and check with local bus operators for changes to bus services on the day.

Each year, hundreds of people gather in Newcastle city centre to observe the parade and pay their respects to the Armed Forces. This year's march will include members of His Majesty's Forces, under the Command of Lieutenant Colonel P Smyth MBE, Commanding Officer 5 Fusiliers.

They will be joined by detachments from HMS Dauntless, The Queen's Own Yeomanry, 101 (Northumbrian) Regiment Royal Artillery, Royal Marine Reserves (Scotland), 4 th Battalion The Parachute Regiment, Trojan Squadron DTUS. RAF Boulmer and Northumbrian Universities Officers Training Corps.

As well as Sea Cadets, Northumbria Army Cadets, 131 Squadron Air Training Corps, the Police Cadets and the Tyne and Wear Fire Service Cadets will join members of the Royal British Legion, Ex-Service Association and former tri-service personnel to take part in the parade.
