Manchester United fans were given a rare reason to celebrate this season as the U18s reached the final of the FA Youth Cup.
Travis Binnion’s side booked their place in the final for the first time since 2011 as they beat Wolves 3-0 at Old Trafford. Charlie McNeill’s double either side of Alejandro Garnacho’s strike continued their impressive run this season.
They’ll now look to add their name to a long list of stars to have lifted the cup for United as they target an 11th crown for the club. In the process, they’ll be looking to follow in the footsteps of the class of 2011, which boasted the likes of Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard.
The youngsters’ fine run will not have gone unnoticed, with the likes of football director John Murtough and technical director Darren Fletcher in the crowd to watch them book their place in the final. Club captain Harry Maguire was also on hand to give a speech in the dressing room prior to kick-off.
And the display was certainly something that the Old Trafford audience has rarely seen this season as they comfortably saw off the Wolves challenge. There were plenty of performances to catch the eye of the supporters in attendance, with McNeill and Garnacho drawing plenty of praise.
United’s U18s will now wait with plenty of interest to find out their opponents for the final. Nottingham Forest take on Chelsea in the other semi-final, with the final taking place at Old Trafford.
