'Remember the name' - Man City fans go wild for Julian Alvarez after World Cup wonder goal

Manchester City fans have been sharing their delight after Julian Alvarez scored a wonderful solo goal in the first half of Argentina's World Cup semi-final against Croatia.

Alvarez has been in the thick of the action in Lusail this evening as Argentina dominated the first 45 minutes against the European side. In the 34th minute, City's youngster was brought down by Dominik Livakovic for a controversial penalty.

Lionel Messi took responsibility from 12 yards and hammered the ball home to give the South Americans the advantage. However, it was Alvarez's moment to shine just five minutes later.

Having done well to win the ball back from a Croatia corner, Alvarez received possession of the ball inside his own half. A piercing run saw the 22-year-old evade the challenges of several defenders before lifting his effort beyond Livakovic for one of the great World Cup goals.

The City man was lauded by his Argentine teammates following the goal and also received approval from Brazil legend who applauded Alvarez in the stands at the Iconic Stadium in Lusail. Blues supporters were similarly mesmerised by the goal and have shared their thoughts on Twitter, here is what they have had to say.

With Erling Haaland in electric form for City since arriving from Borussia Dortmund, Alvarez has struggled to play many games in his preferred centre-forward role. Despite this, the Argentine has scored seven goals in 20 appearances at the Etihad Stadium and has often been praised by Blues fans when he has featured.

Should Argentina hold onto their advantage in Lusail they will return to the city on Sunday for the World Cup final. They will face either Morocco or France who face each other on Wednesday night in Al Khor.
