Remedy Entertainment announced Control 2 is in the works for PC, Xbox, and PS5, a sequel to the multi-award-winning Control that first launched in 2019. The news isn’t entirely a surprise, as Remedy previously announced several projects were in development, including new titles set in the Control universe.
One of those, a multiplayer game developed in partnership with Tencent that may or may not be Control related, still remains under wraps, but the other, previously called Project Heron, is the newly-announced sequel.
The team signed an agreement to co-develop and co-publish Control 2 with 505 Games, who previously published the original Control and are known for their diverse portfolio, including games such as Death Stranding, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, and the indie battle royale Gunfire Reborn.
“Since its launch in 2019, Control has sold over 3 million copies,” Rami and Raffi Galante, co-CEOs of 505 Games, said in the announcement. “Control is the biggest investment 505 Games has ever made, so it has a special place in our hearts. We are grateful to the whole player community that has made Control such a long-lasting and loved game, and are even more excited to bring out Control 2.”
Remedy didn’t provide an estimated Control 2 release date, nor did the studio share much information about what to expect from it.
Meanwhile, Remedy is also still working on Alan Wake 2, first announced at The Game Awards 2021 and kept under wraps since.
