People in Sneinton and Bakersfield have welcomed proposals to change an old pub site into housing. The derelict site is where the Inn On The Hill used to be in Greenwood Road, Sneinton. It was damaged after a fire broke out on the ground floor of the two-storey building in 2017, and was then demolished. The pub had also operated as The Greenwood Tree and Ma Hubbards.
The pub was knocked down in 2018 and the site could now have a new lease of life with a fresh planning application for nine new houses having been submitted. And people in the area said they are pleased that something could soon be done with the land.
Rosina Raynor, 73 is now retired and living in Sneinton Dale, but she used to live opposite the old pub. Rosina said: “I remember the pub a lot. It used to be a restaurant too because believe it or not, my stepson was a chef there. It needs to be gone, it’s such an eyesore now.”

Rosina said she is happy at the thought of the site being turned into houses. She said: “It was a lovely pub, we had wonderful Christmases there and groups of us use to meet there, it was our local. It’s a very good area too with not a lot of crime.”
Sal Ward, 45 also remembers the Inn On The Hill. The receptionist who lives in Bakersfield told Nottinghamshire Live: “I’m glad it’s turning into something, it’s [the old site] looked a mess for the past few years. Whether it was another pub, restaurants, houses, I’m just happy that finally, it’s getting dealt with.”
Ms Ward, a dinner lady, continued: “Nowadays when a bit of land becomes available they are turned into houses so I’m not surprised that’s what's wanting to be done here. The only time it’ll get busy is when it’s the school pick up apart from that, I think it’s a good place for some houses.”
Similarly, Marke Goode, 49, would like to see the site turned into something new. The builder from Sneinton welcomes accommodation to the area.
He said: “The only issue would be parking but I’m honestly not against houses in the area, houses are needed.” He continued and said: “I do remember when it was a pub, I’m not a big drinker but it seemed to be popular. All this [the site] just looks like a hazard.”
Jason Moorley, 51 is also pleased that the site may be used for good. Jason, who lives in the area, said: “It’s [the old site] has been bought a few times and then been up for sale again. I’ve lived here for 3 years and it’s [the site] has been the same.”
The site was owned by Greenwood Academies Trust and the planning application has been submitted by Land Stock Holdings Limited. The latest application includes details which follow the submission of an application put forward last year for outline planning permission, in which a development can go ahead 'in principle' ahead of further plans being put forward.
