Roadworks 365
Congratulations are in order to Bet365 boss Denise Coates, who recently completed work on her enormous, boxy £90 million home dubbed the “Tesco Extra mansion” by the Mail.
Coates’ neighbours in Cheshire East will be breathing a sigh of relief after years of disruption.
Data obtained by Spy via a freedom of information request shows the billionaire obtained permission to shut the road running past her new pad for more than 1,300 days between 2020 and 2023 – potentially setting a new record for the longest-ever closure of a public road for a private construction project. So large were the vehicles needed for the new house, permission also had to be sought to widen the road just for her.
By contrast, actual Tesco stores can be built from scratch in as little as 16 weeks.
Does this mean locals now have the road back for good? Spy wouldn’t bet on it. “She acts like she owns it,” one of them complained.
