Released Nottingham Forest stalwart lands new club

Jordan Smith has found a new club after ending his long association with Nottiongham Forest.

The goalkeeper left the Reds this summer at the end of his contract, having been at the City Ground for more than 20 years. He has now signed for League Two side Stockport County on an initial 12-month deal.

Smith, who joined Forest at the age of seven, came through the ranks and went on to make 54 senior appearances in all competitions for the club. He also had several spells out on loan before bidding farewell to the Reds at the end of last season.

When his departure was announced, Forest head coach Steve Cooper said: "Jordan has been an incredible servant to Nottingham Forest. During my time working with him, he has shown excellent commitment to doing his best for the good of the football club.

"He has made a real contribution with his positive outlook and work ethic. On behalf of everyone at Nottingham Forest, we wish him well for the future."

The club added in a statement: "Everyone at Nottingham Forest thanks Jordan for his huge contribution during his time at The City Ground and wishes him every success going forward."

At Stockport, the 28-year-old will be reunited with former Forest coach Nick Colgan, who is County's head of goalkeeping. Colgan said: “First and foremost, I would like to welcome Jordan to Stockport County.

"Having worked closely with him in the past I know that we are bringing not only a very good goalkeeper, but also an excellent professional into our football club who will enhance the goalkeeping department. I am looking forward to seeing him challenge Ben (Hinchliffe), Ethan (Ross) and Bobby (Jones) for a starting spot in the team.”
