A monument of Jamaican music for over half a century, singer Jimmy Cliff died on Monday at the age of 81. While he made the world dance and transcended generations with hits like "Reggae Night" and "Hakuna Matata," he played a pioneering and enduring role in Africa, introducing the musical genre he embraced and highlighting its socio-political dimension.
The family announced the death in a post on Cliff's official Instagram account, saying he "has crossed over due to a seizure followed by pneumonia."
