Reform UK vows to halt visas for nations seeking slavery reparations

  • Reform UK announced plans to stop issuing visas to individuals from countries that demand reparations from the UK for its role in slavery.

  • Mr Yusuf described the demands for compensation as “insulting”, highlighting Britain's significant sacrifices to be the first major power to outlaw slavery.
  • The party declared that the UK will “no longer tolerate being ridiculed on the world stage” and will not serve as an “ATM for ethnic grievances of the past”.
  • This stance follows a 2023 report recommending the UK pay £18.8 trillion in reparations to 14 countries, and ongoing discussions on the issue by other political figures.
