Reform UK remove Andy Burnham attack ads after artist’s legal action threat

A campaign placard that reads 'Vote Andy For Us' is displayed outside a residential property, ahead of the Makerfield by-election, in Ashton-in-Makerfield, Britain, June 5, 2026 - (Reuters)

Reform UK has withdrawn a series of attack advertisements featuring a portrait of Andy Burnham, following a legal threat from the artist who accused the party of copyright infringement. Illustrator Stanley Chow’s lawyers alleged the unauthorised use of his image to promote an "anti-immigration" message, demanding a public apology for content they claimed was "edited without permission".

The images, reportedly generated by artificial intelligence, depicted individuals in a small boat, holding "Vote Andy" placards emblazoned with Mr Chow’s distinctive portrait of the Makerfield by-election candidate and Labour leadership hopeful.
