Wesley Fofana has revealed the role Reece James played in convincing him to join Chelsea from Leicester City this summer – and the centre-back is hopeful of emulating two club legends during his time at Stamford Bridge.
The 21-year-old defender completed his switch earlier today and has signed a seven-year contract with Chelsea. It brings to an end a month-long pursuit and Fofana's arrival – alongside that of Kalidou Koulibaly – ensures the Blues have been able to replace the departed Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger.
Fofana's signing, which is understood to be worth around £70million without add-ons, has seen Chelsea's transfer outlay this summer exceed £250million. And that figure is likely to rise as co-owner and interim sporting director Todd Boehly attempts to conclude further deals; the current record spend in a single window is £270m by Real Madrid in 2019.
