Grace Harris and Georgia Redmayne have struck quickfire half centuries to lift the Brisbane Heat to a 14-run WBBL win over the Sydney Thunder at Blundstone Arena.

Harris (74 off 54 balls) and Redmayne (64 off 46 balls) combined for a 126-run partnership off 92 balls on Friday to lift the Heat to a 3-163 total.

In reply, the Thunder were restricted to 9-149, with Sammy-Jo Johnson (41 off 41 balls), Phoebe Litchfield (39 off 22 balls) and Rachael Haynes (31 off 29 balls) all making starts without going on with the job.

The run-out of Litchfield proved to be a critical moment in the match.

Courtney Sippel snared 3-27 off four overs for the Heat, while Jess Jonassen finished with 3-20 after claiming some late wickets.

The result means the seventh-placed Thunder will more than likely need to win their remaining five games to make the finals.

Brisbane, with five wins from eight games, moved into second spot.

"We were talking about someone in our top four being there at the end and winning the game, so it was really disappointing to get out when I did," Johnson said.

"I'd been in and assessed the conditions, and had a chance to take it really deep for us.

"But it is what it is, and hopefully we can turn it around next game."

Redmayne entered the match having scored just five and four in her previous two innings, but the current golden bat cap holder released the shackles with nine boundaries in her glittering knock.

Harris was just as destructive, with the 29-year-old thumping nine fours and one six.

Redmayne and Harris were both dismissed by Belinda Vakarewa in the 19th over, but by then the damage was already done.

Thunder speedster Hannah Darlington (0-40 off four overs) copped plenty of punishment, with Vakarewa (3-21 off four overs) the only bowler from her side to come away unscathed.
