Even in football, misinformation has consequences.
A Reddit user who wrote over the weekend that Kentucky quarterback Will Levis was telling his family the Panthers planned to take him with the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft has deleted his account, astute fans pointed out Thursday night.
The user, by the name of SaleAgreeable2834, said "Well ladies and gentleman [sic], [Levis is] telling friends and family Carolina will in fact take him on Thursday. You’re welcome.”
The post appeared to dramatically affected the betting market ahead of the draft, with Levis’s odds to be taken No. 1 shortening to +600 from +4000 early this week. Levis, for his part, downplayed the rumors.
Of course, Levis was not taken No. 1 by Carolina, or No. 2, or No. 3, or so on. The Panthers made Alabama quarterback Bryce Young the first overall pick. Levis, one of the hottest names of the pre-draft process, continues to fall as the first round drags on.
