Zimbabwe and Zambia both rely on lake Kariba – the world’s biggest dam – for the bulk of their hydro-electric supply. The record-low water level at present means electricity supplies in both countries will be heavily rationed.
Zambia will start power cuts from Thursday 15 December which are expected to last six hours at a stretch.
