Swansea City are "closing in"on the signing of ex-Celtic defender Stephen Welsh, according to a new report
The Welsh side are set to finalise a multi-year deal for the composed centre-back, with talks progressing well after identifying him as a key defensive target.
The Daily Record reports that Welsh had attracted interest from a number of clubs in England’s second tier, while there was also an offer on the table from Major League Soccer.
Despite those options, Swansea have won the race for the 26-year-old, who is now poised to make the move south.

Welsh has agreed to terminate his Celtic contract early in order to complete the switch, even though he still had 12 months remaining on his deal with the Scottish champions.
The defender is understood to be keen on securing regular first-team football and sees the move as the right opportunity to kickstart the next phase of his career.
After a successful loan stint at Greenock Morton in 2019, the academy graduate made his breakthrough at his boyhood club, playing his part in several successful seasons.
However, competition for places has limited his game time in recent campaigns, with the ex-Scotland youth international spending time on loan in Belgium with Mechelen, before his successful stint at Motherwell.
